I am looking at getting certification in Mexico early next year. I would appreciate any advice on choosing between these two schools:
1. International House Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen (CELTA)
2. International Teacher Training Organization in Guadalajara (TEFL)
I guess my main question is: Is the CELTA certification worth the extra money?
I've looked through the forums and have found some posts on this topic, and there seems to be varying opinion. New and fresh thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks. |

If those are your two choices then go for the CELTA. Why? It's recognized all over. You might be in Mexico and want to go to Korea. No prob if you have the CELTA (and a BA). |

I would ditto Prof. Although the private primaria I worked at didn't care much about where my TEFL degree came from (or even that I had one since I already had a bachelor's in Elementary Ed), everywhere else in the world, they want a CELTA or equivalent, and if you don't have CELTA, you could spend a lot of time trying to prove how yours is equivalent. I would say totally go for CELTA! |
