Been there a bunch of times. Nice place.
Work scene is so-so. Hook yourself up before making a commitment. Some colleges on the outskirts, and training schools. But seems not an overabundance of available jobs.
If you are set on going there drop me a pm and I can hook you up with an American friend of mine who's been there off and on for 4 or so years and runs a school and corporate training center. |

My Brother and I would like to work in Xiamen. Does anyone know of any schools there I can contact as I keep getting agencies offering to get me a job. I would rather go through the geniune schools. |

I lived there for six months, taught at XMU, moonlit at Meten.
Also had one corporate job there, 200RMB per class.
You can find direct jobs on the Internet, just have to look around.
Part-time pay at both Web and Meten is 100RMB per class.
EF is there too, and Kings International, both do adults and kids. Plenty of kindy and kiddie gigs, pay range 100-150RMB per class.
It's a beautiful place to live, small city vibe with a beautiful coastline and clean beaches, great for biking and sightseeing but the water is polluted and not suitable for cooling off, swimming, etc.
I swam in the sea twice (Pearl Beach) and gave up for the XMU pool.
My wife and I had a 9th floor apartment, pretty view of Piano Island, for 2K/month. Overall quite a nice place to live but not so good for making and saving money. |

well if I don't go, I won't know. I dont have a lot of money now, my ex in shenzhen cleaned me up. If i go it will be Tuesday or Wednesday this week. I'm working round the clock seeing if I can at least find and secure some sort of job there before I leave here, but not having much luck. Plus the fact got to deal witht he visa issue. No degree, but tesol and on a F visa as I said before which only allows me to stay in china 2 months at a time. |

It's not how it was five years ago. Schools and Universities in Xiamen and places like that can afford to be choosy so you aren't going to have much luck. As I had said before - try places like Henan, Jilin, Inner Mongolia - yes - I know you don't want to go there but without a degree your choices are limited, if your time frame is limited also - you are being a bit silly putting all your eggs in one basket and trying your luck in a place like Xiamen. |

Xiamen has to be one of the most popular cities in China for people to work in besides Beijing and Shanghai. It's not that big of a city either. |
