How do schools look upon families? I have a wife and child, and I cannot leave them forever. I realise that a period to go figure things out before bringing them is a good idea, but they'll have to come. I'm most concerned about housing off campus and visa support.
Any comments? Don't worry about hardship; my son was born on a steel table in Bulgaria while the doctor smoked a cigarette. We can handle hardship.

Do you have the quals and experience to compete for university positions? I think most newbies to Russia are looking at private language school gigs...in which case, highly unlikely that you can support wife and child, no matter how tough they are Laughing

For my own info - I'd be interested to know if uni gigs are at all common (have 12 years experience, 8 at international universities, some previous Russia experience and MA TESL/TEFL).

I was secretly hoping that after getting there they would be interested to hire my wife as well. Then the combined money would suffice. Dai, Bozhe.
I would love to try to throw some elbows and get a uni job, but I don't know the terrain yet. I'm still researching this option.

When I first came to Russia, I had a boyfriend. I was the one who originally got the job, but I ended up asking the school if they'd be willing to hire him as well and eventually, they agreed. So you risk nothing by asking.

The schools are very happy to hire couples. It eliminates flatmate problems.

Kidfs are another issue. I doubt very much whether a school would take responsibility for a kid, which begs the question of how you could get him/her into the country even if you were willing to take on all responsibilities yourself.
