The answer to your qhestion:)

Yes, for most positions you need a teaching credential and experience from your home country. Usually in a core subject like science or maths...

Sometimes being in the right place at the right time is more important. I've seen people with a bit of experience get assistant teaching positions and move up, BUt this is Peru, I'm sure in places like western Europe, i'ts more difficult.

Usually you need a BA
teaching license (valid of course)
two years experience

Here are some lists of schools

I teach at an international school in South Korea. When I was hired, I had:

A BA in English Lit.
An MA in English Lit and Theatre Studies (joint degree).
One previous year of teaching experience at a Korean uni.

I do NOT have teaching certification. Some of my colleagues informed me that I had really taken a "shot in the dark" and that I was really lucky to get hired.

From what I've been told, many schools outside of the Western European "hot zone" will take you without teaching certification, especially if you have an MA and previous teaching experience.

As with all jobs, though, I think once you're in the international school circuit, it becomes easier to move up the ladder. Still, if I want to go to Western European schools, I will have to get teaching certification, either online while working or by going home to teachers' college for a year.
