Any advice on shipping extra items from the U.S. to Kuwait? I'm not planning on bringing a ton, but I would like to send over some extra boxes with books and a few household items. I've had trouble figuring out costs on the US Postal Service website, and that seems to be primarily for smaller items. Anyone know of a way to ship 5-7 larger boxes (book boxes will probably weigh about 50 lbs) for cheap? I don't mind sending it via ocean on a 6-8 week transit time if that's cheaper. Or do people usually actually get moving companies? I don't want to spend a ton, but I would like to bring those extra boxes. OR, has anyone tried bringing over extra boxes as excess luggage on their flight??? How did that work?

Thanks!

I don't think that there are cheap ways any more. Laughing

Using the post office may be problematic and expensive. And I think that excess baggage is even more expensive that it used to be with all the new weight restrictions.

With 5-7 large boxes, I would use air freight and/or a shipping company. Your employer may well be able to give you help with this.

first, max out checked weight (i think it's 2 piececs at 32 kilo max each per person) and carry on 15 kilo per person (which does not include purse, briefcase and pc)
this summer i priced excess baggage - i threw the paper away - i think it was 150usd per 50 lb - didn't need it - you can legally carry a lot if you max out your legally allowed weight
then ask a shipper about a tri-wall (it'll take 2 months minimum - it's a cardboard box on steroids that can fit a small desk to give you an idea about volume) in a shared container by sea
haaving said that please review posts on this branch - many of us ole timers vehemently feel newbies foolishly and ignorantly bring too much
household items are at the 500 fils store diasco.com? and books www.q8books.com and amazon....

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, I definitely plan on maxing out my allowed weight. I need to see which airline I'm flying, then I'll check into the regs. I definitely plan on buying most of my stuff there (use a little shipping allowance for personal items I really want to have with me), and then the rest on goods once I arrive. I'm really not planning bringing many household items...I just have a hard time separating myself from my books Smile So maybe paying excess baggage for a couple extra boxes of just books is a good idea, and leave the rest in the usa.
