Hello All--
I have read most of the posts in this forum with great interest because my husband and I are trying to find a way to live and work in Turkey.
As of June, I will have completed my M.Ed. in TESOL plus one full year of teaching in a US elementary school and one year teaching adult immigrants in the Washington, DC area. My husband is a software developer/web programmer. We hope to move to Istanbul in the fall and stay for 6 months to one year.
I have a phone interview set up with IH Istanbul (International House Istanbul). Has anyone had any experience with this organization? Any recommendations for places to apply?
We would also appreciate any advice about finding work for my husband.
Thank you!

There are 2 IH's in Istanbul. One is in suadiye on the Asian side(about one hour from Taksim, the city centre) The other is levent 10-15 minutes (by metro) from the centre. I have never worked there but i have known alot of people who have. Things are quite good there. I believe that the old director has returned there and I know that he is fair. New teachers to these branches generally work evenings and/or weekends, but not necessarily. The branch in Levent does a fair bit of in-house work. (it did a couple of years ago and I wouldn't think that it has changed)
I don't have much info for your husband. but I have a friend who went to Istanbul for a computing job. It fell through and he couldn't find other work in that field. so he did a CELTA at ITI and now enjoys teaching.
Good luck with the interview. |
