What's the website where a person would go to warn potential teachers about bad language schools in Mexico????
TEFL.org??
Also, for any teachers thinking of coming to Mexico City to teach adults, here are two schools to avoid because they WILL NOT pay you.

Wall Street Institute
Harmon Hall

Please get the word out to everyone to AVOID these two schools like the plague.

Do you mean they won't ever pay you or that they pay you late or not enough?

Harmon Hall in DF never paid the full amount and now Wall Street Institute isn't paying ANY of the teachers who do the "encounters". It was a week late YESTERDAY.
Many of the teachers are emailing each other and they're really mad. I went to the center in the Zona Rosa Tuesday night and they wanted me to sign something without my lawyer looking at it first so I said no.

They then told me it would be in the bank the next day but that still hasn't happened. So far I have had NO LUCK with ANY language school here in DF. An email from one of the teachers at WSI said that the company is in real financial trouble so I guess we'll never get paid.

Since my work visa isn't tied to WSI I don't have to keep working for them. Again....ANYONE considering coming to Mexico City to teach EFL to adults....DO NOT WORK FOR WALL STREET INSTITUTE OR HARMON HALL. Especially WSI. They WILL NOT PAY YOU!!!! Head this warning!!

Wow, jfurgers, I'm really sorry to hear about all the problems you've been having Sad . Maybe finding your own students is the best way to go, even with all the problems that way of making a living entails.

That's too bad. I never had any real problems getting paid at WSI. Things have changed though. Sounds like they might go under soon from what I've heard.

Good luck, things seem really tight here right now.

You're right about WSI going under. I'm getting emails from teachers everyday and they're all MAD because its been over a week now and still no pay.
Remember all of you potential teachers coming to Mexico City....DO NOT WORK FOR WALL STREET INSTITUTE!!!!!!!!!

Just to turn this topic on its head, is anyone working at the moment in the DF at a language school that pays fairly decently and treats its teachers like professionals?

Me. I've been in the same job for 2 years. The starting pay was not great, but I've had 3 raises in 2 years, as many or few hours as I request, and great students and co-workers. It required persistence and patience to get hired, and a bit of time and proving myself to be given more groups. It was worth it. I love my job.

Anyone out there know how to get in touch with UNAM`s school certification department? I have searched UNAM`s website without any luck and need to both find out what preparatoria`s need to do to comply with UNAM certification and how to go about getting in touch with such people.

I'm teaching in a prepa that's running UNAM's CCH program and often need to refer to the DGIRE website. Wonder whether this DGIRE link is of any use to you? It appears to explain how institutions carry out the annual renewal of incorporation with the UNAM, and it might give some clues about where to begin the incorporation process.
