To put it short & sweet, I am 'out' in the world - I don't own a house/have a home in the USA (or currently anywhere else, for that matter). I'm in Brunei right now, and hope to land a job here - the announcement is in 2 weeks - but also preparing if that falls through.
I think Brunei is a wonderful place (based on 5 months here), but there just aren't jobs for USA certified teachers. Lots of openings here still, just not for 'us' from the USA, sadly.
So, I'm already in touch with others on the ME boards about prospects there, but am also curious about Libya.
I have no wife, no kids, but also no 'home,' so I don't see any point in a rotational job setup, unless/until I can figure out how to buy a home in the general Med area! With that in mind, would anyone offer up advice for a certified teacher (BAAS and multiple teaching certs, but no MA/PhD), 15 years experience, very solid refs, 40 years old, single, culturally hardy & adaptive, about the possibility of longer-term prospects in Libya, pref. somewhere on/in striking range of the coast & beach-oriented communities? I am looking for a balance of lifestyle & possible earning/savings potential, and am willing to put in a year or 2 to prove myself to start up the ladders there.
I'll have a few months to suss it out, should I decide to move in that direction, and am already devouring all the threads here related to Libya I can find.
If Libya seems like a good fit, please let me know - or any other suggestions you might have for the region. If you have any questions about Brunei and/or South Korea, feel free to send me a PM.
Cheers!
Glen

addendum -
Having just gotten in 2 PMs, it would seem that I would be facing the same problem in Libya as the one that prompted my letter above to begin with: difficulty for those from the USA in securing a work permit/visa.
Rotational work could well work out at the salaries I am hearing; I'd just go traveling, or go to lease a home somewhere in the general region, or off in SEAsia.
So, now shifting the question some: does anyone know a school/company in Libya that has a permit/quota for USA-cert/passport holding teachers???
Thanks - I don't want to take Libya off my list just yet.
