I am considering taking a job at this university, located in Hirakata, and was wondering if anyone had any good or bad news about it. Also, if you have anything good or bad to say about Hirakata, that would also be welcome. Thank you |

i live in hirakata. best way to describe it is convenient but boring. but once at the train station, it's 30-40 minutes to osaka and 30 minutes to kyoto. 1 and a half hours to either kobe or nara. makes for plenty to do on the weekends. |

The pay is low for a university position.
One of my friends was offered 4.5 million yen a year for 15 hours per-week at this school. Housing is free and on / near campus. Not sure how far away from the train station it is.
One of the lower level university jobs in Japan but maybe a good start for someone with an M.A. and trying to break into Japan.
Still, the salary is an eikaiwa level salary. |

4.5 million yen/year is not a typical eikaiwa salary. Try something closer to 3 - 3.6 million. |

Most of the ALTs and eikaiwa teachers in Japan can only dream of getting 4.5 million a year and free housing, Miyazaki, that's well above your typical eikaiwa salary. |

Heck, it's WAY above your typical Westgate "Professor" salary. |

Miyazaki, the key word there is "typical"- that is not a typical eikaiwa salary. Possible maybe, but not typical. Go out and take a survey of 100 random eikaiwa teachers and if there are any who are earning that much, they will be a very small percentage.
If you really believe that amount is typical, can you back up your claim at all? |
