There was an ad up on another site advertising Ministry jobs through these folks. I have never heard of them before. They have postings in bri and Nizwa. Anybody have any experience with them?

I can recommend them. Very professional agents. They're recruiting for a number of colleges in Oman and Saudi.

Are they related to the Indian recruiters people have been mentioning here lately? I was contacted about interviewing for jobs at TATI, same as the Indian one...but I think in Nizwa, not Ibra. Does anyone have experience working with them? Or with TATI?

Just as an update...

My boyfriend and I had applied for positions with Network Overseas back in November, and, as you can see above, got notified about interviews at the beginning of December. I had stated that I was looking for an early new year start, with February being ideal. However, I heard nothing from them in December and only last night I finally heard from them out of the blue and they were calling to interview me-- no warning given and it was 11pm! I was told that all my papers had been processed by the Ministry of Manpower, and I was good to go. No one had told me that any of this was happening- if I had known, I might have not given up on Oman.

I've already taken a job elsewhere because I'd heard nothing from them for ages, and when I said this to the woman, she was baffled. I said that I'd mentioned in my application that I was needing a February start, she seemed startled and asked, "This february??'' *sigh*

I know that things in Oman work slowly and there is a hurry up and wait mentality, but this is just silly!

If you were expecting adequate (note I don't say good) planning, organization, time management and communication skills - you're looking for work in the wrong part of the world. Laughing

This is pretty standard for nearly every institution in the Gulf. As for being called at 11pm, I was called at 3am regularly by the HR department of a UAE tertiary institution - the Australian woman couldn't wrap her head around the fact that there are things called "time zones". Even after I told her the time where I was - she managed to call me at least 3 more times in the wee small hours.

Network Overseas is a British firm whose reps recruit British professionals. Is this true?

Thanks.

Yes. London-based. You're in safe hands. NO only recruit British professionals. They arrange for your medical, get you a visa and book your flight.

I was just hired as a Yank. I am assigned to Ibri Technical College.

Can anybody tell me about Ibri? I am a vegetarian, but had been assured this would not be a problem. Does anybody know how expensive housing is?

Thanks.

I had been under the impression that these recruiters were providing furnished housing.

Did you do a search for Ibri? There has been some discussion of it, but we may not have someone who has actually lived there pass by right now. It is rather the back of beyond. You will need to be someone who doesn't mind your own company and can occupy him or herself.

Lots of things to see and do in the way of nature, local culture. Part of the 'authentic' Oman. Check out 'Oman2day' for all sorts of info on Oman. The x publisher spent 4 or 5 years writng about his thorough travels around the country. Be sure to check the back issues. Good stuff!

Well, my Network Overseas finds teachers for recruiters . . .

My contract is with TATI. They provide a decent enough stipend and people within the company usually know of a place or two you can visit to try to arrange housing.

As for medical care, it seems sketchy . . .

They have given me the name and location of the clinic I can visit where I will be treated if I say I work for them. Does this strike anybody as being a bit unusual?

No, actually it is standard practice in Oman where the health insurance companies have contracts with certain clinics for service. You can go to any clinic you want but there may be additonal billing. You do have the freedom of choice if you wish to pay for it. If you ask your colleagues you will find that each may have have a different clinic to attend depending on his/her contractor. If you do have a special medical condition that can be treated only at a particular clinic or hospital you should work out an arrangement inadvance with your insurance company to ensure the extent of your coverage.

This is the usual, especially with the private colleges and rercuiters. But, I was also able to use my labor card to register at the government hospitals for specialist treatments outside of what was available at the assigned clinic.

A recruiter using a recruiter... how nice that two people/organizations are skimming off chunks of your salary...

The system is much like the EMOs in the US. Be sure you know what will be covered by insurance and if your chosen health care provider (emo/clinic/hospital) will accept your insurance before you begin your 'doctoring'. If you are Canadian this whole private insurance thing will take some getting used to....do not asume you are covered wherever you may seek care and for all the care you receive. Always read the finer print.
