Dalian Veteran said he knew of a foreign teacher whose school cancelled his residence permit and foreign experts certificate. They should have never let it happen
Your passport...is US government property. There is no Chinese authority that needs it. the school can take photocopies of the passport. Yes, I give my passport when the FAO asks because I trust him, but I also make it quite clear in the future, use a photocopy, and let me know what institution doesn't accept a copy.
They say they need it to register you with the PSB? Probably not true...but you are under no obligation to surrender it. Go with the FAO to the PSB. It is a one afternoon affair.
The Residence permit is YOURS. The school only facilitates you getting it. The school should never be allowed to keep itTechnically you are to carry it with you at all times. The expiration date should be about the same as the end of your contract date. Otherwise the school has a problem. The only time you are to give it up is when you leave the country. Sometimes they take it from you at the airport, sometimes they don't. The fine for not having a current residence permit is the same as for not having a current visa, 500RMB per day (technically)
the foreign experts certificate is yours. I have never had a school care whether I keep it or not, but technically you are supposed to surrender it when you leave.
You should always find out where the Foreign Expert Bureau is in your province. My school in Henan wouldn't give me my air ticket money, so i had to go there. You have an absolute right at arbitration. |
