I am hoping to brush up on my programming. It's been awhile, but what do you think are the top programming languages in demand today? I am especially interested if anyone thinks there is a different need in Japan compared to the US.

I'm learning C++ because it's a popular language, especially with game development. It can't hurt to learn it, and even if the world suddenly stopped using C++, you'll find the syntax very similar to Java and other related languages. The various concepts like object-oriented programming, overloading, operators, etc. will come in handy with plenty of other languages. I have no idea which programming languages you currently know and what kind of programming you want to do, so can you tell us?

I think I would like to get into object oriented programming and or web based programming.

i took a few courses in C++ and Visual Basic but this was a few years ago. I am going to go the bookstore this weekend and seek out something to jump back in with. Any suggestions?
