The lease on my old apartment is up on the 26th. A friend of mine was staying there, but decided to go back to the states and not take over the contract. There is nothing nice about the apartment except for the price and the fact that everything works. I worked out a deal where I'd pay 3 months up front at 1000 peso per month. There are not more expenses. It doesn't have internet, but there are some companies in the building, so they don't mind if you hack theirs.
I'm only offering it here because when I first started teaching I had a hard time finding a cheap place to live that didn't involve sharing a room or living with a mean old lady. With rents as high as they are now this is a great deal for an English teacher. I stayed in the apartment even after I had the money to move to a better place because of the location and I liked having extra money. It's in once 2 blocks from line b. It takes about 10-15 mins to get downtown.
If any of you are interested, send me a pm with your number and I'll call. Please do so ASAP

Hey Che2007,
Ya, thats super cheap for an aparment here....hold on to that! Is it your own room?
Here are current prices:
Apartment
Variations in cost are because it depends on the location, size, and quality of your apartment. These prices are all based on apartments that youd find in the most common neighbourhoods: San Telmo, Recoleta, Centro, Barrio Norte, Palermo, Belgrano, Colegiales, Villa Crespo
A room in a shared apartment: $700 $1200.
Your own studio apartment, as a temporary furnished rental: $1500 - $2100
**This usually includes internet, phone, cable, condo expenses, etc.
Your own one bedroom, as a temporary furnished rental: $1800 - $2400
**This usually includes internet, phone, cable, etc.
Your own studio, renting long term with a garantia: $1000 - $1500
**this includes apartment fees. But not things like phone, internet, cable, and electricity.
Your own one bedroom, renting long term with garantia: $1200 - $2000
**this includes apartment fees. But not things like phone, internet, cable, and electricity.

Yes, it's my own room in a shared house. I'm not in Buenos Aires yet. I have a friend there who checked it out for me. He says it's in a very nice area, and only about 20 minutes from downtown. I think I'm going to take it until I find something better. So it's about $1000 pesos a month. I get my own room, but i have to share everything, kitchen, bathrooms, etc, etc... What do you think?
By the way, thanks for responding, this Argentina discussion board is very quiet. Is it because everyone is working so hard there? Or is it that everyone is too busy enjoying themselves there??? haha I hope it's a mix of both! I'd like to meet some of you folks, I'll be there in about a weeks time... Anyone interested??

Hi Che,
$1000 pesos is a lot more than $200 dollars! However, it is not too expensive. $200 dollars would have been a steal, $1000 pesos is about normal, depending on the place. What it depends on is how nice it is, how good the furnashings are, and where it is located. But of course, its nice to have a place to start out in, and after a month or two, you can always move. Also, mid Feb to mid march is the hardest time to find an apartment, because all of the students come back.
Anyway, Im going on vacation in 1 week (for the month of Feb ) so cant get together right away, but when I get back, absolutely! I hope your first few days in bsas goes well, if you have more questions, I will likely be checking this forum every once in a while. Cheers |

Hi!
che2007-I was wondering how your experience in Buenos Aires is going. I know from reading this thread that you have been living there since January and I would love to know how it is going for you. It would be so helpful to talk to someone who is currently living there and can share with me their experience. I would really appreciate to hear from you because its very diifficult to get any information from anyone regarding teaching in Argentina as you mentioned above.
Thanks!

Well yes, I'm here... I have been here since end of January. Well, it was really hard to land a job for the first 2 months. I counted that I went to 15 job interviews, and I got work at only one place! Now i'm working from Mondays to Thursdays from 9-6pm... I'm off fridays..so i have long weekends... I'm teaching IN-COMPANY Business English. I got really lucky actually, and I think I deserve it because like i said, I tried really hard to get a job here... it's crazy because I have a BA, a CELTA, and over 3 years of ESL experience... Well i realized after that i got here wayyy too early.. I should have arrived in March... but it was okay because i got to know the city really well and travelled around a bit ...
I also moved 3 times! ajajaj so i'm finally settled in Belgrano (beautiful barrio, I would recommend it) and paying 250 dollars a month.. i have a room in a shared house.. but it's a huge room with a double bed..tv...heater...huge closets...a desk...etc.. so i got really lucky.. but it does take a lot of research and looking around.. anyway.. now that i'm working i'm starting to get flooded with calls for work!! haha so that's how it goes here.. everything takes a little longer here than in the westernized world...
PM me if u have any other questions.. i'll help with as much as i can!
