Hi all,
This is my first post, and I wanted to thank everyone who has posted on this forum because it contains absolutely valuable information and experiences, and best of all IT'S FREE! Ok, I'm an American looking to compete for those highly prized International School jobs in Indonesia. According to the info on the Indo forum, my best bet is to obtain a k-12 certificate/credential back in the States, first. My academic background is more geared towards TESOL than English. So my questions are:
1. If I obtain a k-12 TESOL certificate, will I still qualify to teach regular English classes at an international school?
2. What states have the least amount of hassle to maintain the credential while overseas? I'm hearing lots of nonsense about having to take classes to maintain credentials and having to pay yearly "renewal" fees....
3. How do you maintain your K-12 certificate when you're overseas, and what if the certificate expires? What happens?
4. Do international schools look more favorably upon certain state certificates over others, or do they just want you to have one?
5. Are there particular subjects in high demand at your international school?
Thank you for your help. |
