I picked up a 2.5m American Douglas Fir for 480 pesos yesterday (that's it on my shoulder over there<). A little less than prices back home, so not too bad. Spent yesterday and today trimming it.

I'm off from the 15th to Jan. 6th.
Staying home for a change. I went home for 2006 and 2007. Looking forward to a quiet one here in DF.
I'm most looking forward to a lack of snow, some quiet, and some time with my family here in Mexico, as opposed to the ruckus up north.
Although, I may just squeeze in a skate on the outdoor ice rink in the Zocalo here or a sled run down a snowy slope they put up outside Liverpool. Getting strange here in DF at Christmas lately. |

I went past that Liverpool yesterday on the Metrobus. The whole thing was freaky weird man. The Christmas windows were pretty disappointing, but I got the impression that it was something fairly new, so they're not quite London-like yet. The toboggan looked fun, but I wondered if it was just kids allowed? I went tobogganing last Christmas, at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, on the giant sand dunes!
I'm off from December 20th until the 6th.
I'm going sea kayaking in the Sea of Cortez for the first week. Kayaking round an island, and camping on said island every night. After that, I don't know what I'll do, maybe spend the next week travelling slowly along the coast back up to DF.
I'm looking forward to doing something I've never done before, in a place I've never been before, and hoping that Christmas day is nicer than last year's misery in El Paso, Texas. |

Spending Christmas with the Mexican family, as usual. The big suspense will be whether I'll be assigned the chiles rellenos like the previous 10 years, or whether we'll swap dishes again like last year, when I had to learn to make tortas de papa and it took me out of my comfort level. |

We're headed up to California for the festivities. While I am looking forward to seeing friends and family and eating Indian and Thai food, I am not looking forward to how we have decided to come back: driving a 1991 Camry my mom gave us. We're looking at nearly a week driving with two young kids from San Francisco to Oaxaca. Help!
Oh, and another thing: On the way up, I scheduled a 7-hour layover in DF so I could run into town and take some photographs for an article. Is there a good, reliable place to stow our luggage at the DF airport while we're running around? We're not checking luggage, so it's just carry-on. |

They have lockers at the DF airport to stow gear. I think both terminals have them. |

I'm off from December 19 until January 3.
I'm flying to Toluca on December 22, but leaving as soon as I get there for Morelia then to Guanajuto and San Miguel.
Since my stay in Mexico is likely to last only a year, and since I'm working in the north it would be a shame not to travel south when I have the chance.
The downside is I'll be all alone on December 25, which is not such a bad thing.
Anyone in Morelia? Would you care to take a stranger in

After being non-plussed by my first x-mas away from home here last year, my boyfriend and I will be driving up north to see some snow (as a Midwesterner, christmas lights always seem a bit sad w/out snow) and visit my family and friends in Detroit and Chicago. I think I'll be throwing a posada for my classes on the 12th or 13th, and then blowing out of town on the 15th. Knock on wood for me that we won't hit any fun ice storms on the way!
As a side note, if anyone is en route between Guadalajara and Chicago and would like a ride, pm me. |

*SIGH* such is Xmas in most of NJ Im afraid... almost never go quite cold enough for snow. Even worse is Xmas lights in the cold rain.
Used to love Xmas in Tucson however. No expectation of snow but the desert is soooooooooo dark that the Xmas lights shine beautifully. And just a simple set of brown paper bags with a bit of sand and a candle was a gorgeous sight. |

I'm off from 12/22 to 1/12.
I'm flying to NYC to spend Christmas with my mom, siblings and in-laws (and get an apostilled birth certificate and high school transcript).
I'm most looking forward to seeing my family and friends (which I only do every couple of years), ice skating (maybe) at Bear Mountain, a fantastic bookstore a walk away from my mom's house, and cooking with easy-to-find ingredients. And snow, I guess, for at least a few minutes.

To be clear, I'm flying into NYC, but spending the 10 days about an hour north on the Hudson. |

I'm coming to Mexico just in time for x-mas. I was thinking about driving through Baja and then taking a ferry over to the "mainland" so to speak. Any good places for experiencing Mexican xmas?
Haven't lined up a job yet, so not sure of my final January destination. |

Taking a bus to Juarez and making the cross on foot, getting back on the same bus, then flying to NorCal...
I just hope they don't give my wife crap about crossing, she's got her LASER, but i have this bad feeling that they'll say "you married one of ours! you're no longer welcome!" |
