I'm sure that this has been posted before, but I had no luck finding similar topics. Sorry.

I am 18 years old, halfway through my first semester at a Community College (General Education atm)

I recently visited Shanghai with my girlfriend because her father lives there, he suggested I teach English. And this has been a serious consideration for quite some time.

I am interested in teaching English in China.

Now all I need to know is, where to start?

What schooling/classes should I be taking?
Where do I start?

I need all the information possible.

ANd get a degree. It's needed for most visas.

I would be difficult to get a proper legal job with a legitimate school offering a Z visa without either a degree or a CELTA/CTESOL. However there are many unauthorised/grey area schools who offer jobs on F visas to just about anyone, or at least there were until the pre-Olympic crackdown. I guess they still exist.

The OP is very young to find teaching jobs, although I've heard of others of around that age managing it on Working Holiday visas in Japan or on semi-dodgy 'F' visas in China. If the OP is of 'graduate calibre' a CELTA/CTESOL would be useful, but really at 18 one should be thinking of obtaining as many qualifications as poss. in ones home country before relocating to China.

Get the degree. Without it, you are forever doomed to newbie-level jobs. It works for a couple of years, but long-term it's a dead end.
