|
|
Hope I got the main gist of this thread in the title.
Okay, I'm a BBC (British born Chinese).
I don't have a university degree, but I do have A-levels and a 1 year art diploma and 3 months ALT experience in Tokyo.
Can anyone tell me what are my chances of finding full-time or several part-time ESL positions in Vietnam. good or bad?
I'm in a bit of a poo situation in Tokyo and might have to leave in March.
So would really appreciate honest answers. |

Hi, being asian will make it more difficult for u and a degree didn't seem to help this guy i know who's got a B.ed ( plus TESOL) from the states.
Having said all that, just persevere and a gig will come, hopefully.
Bear in mind u may have to accept less , like 8 - 12 bucks ph?
it doesn't help your cause that the global financial crises is also affecting Vietnam witjh less students enrolling and more teachers on the market than available work.
anyway, all the best. |

So, do you expect to see a mass exodus of unemployed teachers? |

the Language schools will just pick and choose who they want, that is, who is asking for the least amount of pay.....?
I think the reason why a lot of us are here in the first place is because of the higher rate of pay, compared to say Cambodia or Thailand, and the fact visas are so easy to get and no BS with WP/immigration being thrown into the equation. Otherwise, i would of been in Thailand by now as i prefer the lifestlye/food/culture/people.
There's less work in VN simple because most high schools here don't have EP that many Schools do in Thailand.
a lot of teachers move onto Taiwan/Korea, others have gone home, some will tough it out and wait for an improvement in the economy, though 2009 isn't looking like it's going to be much better?
3 months ago, i was doing as many hours as i wanted , now i am struggling to get into double figures. I just hope that after the Tet ( new year) it will pick up......live in hope. |

Thanks for the info!
What's an EP?
I'm not sure to take the risk or not going to Vietnam.
I'm far from being the ideal candidate.
gonna think about it. |
