Is there a bank that offers International Money Orders in Japan?
How much do they cost, if they are available? |

You can get a international money order at the post office. You have to fill out a form either for a remittance to an address or to an account. The price is 2,000¥ per m.o. Oh, you also need a passport, gaijin card or pension book to purchase it. |

A word of caution about international money orders: there apparently has been a lot of fraud / counterfeiting with them, causing some post offices in other countries to not except them. Last year, a friend of mine sent one to me, and then my post office here in the U.S. refused to accept it. It was denominated in U.S. dollars, issued by the Japanese Postal Ministry, but I was turned down. I couldn't believe they had the right to do that to me, I started to raise Cain, but then decided better of it and went to another post office. I finally got it cashed. But I won't be using international money orders again. |
