I have heard all about the blatant racism in Korea, but until recently I have not heard of any in Japan towards westerners. Lately I have been coming across some stories on other sites with the same format as this site. Has anyone had this problem or do these sound like very isolated incidences? I think most of it also pertains to dating girls, but I'm wondering not only about the dating but in everyday life as well. If there is any is it as bad as Korea or only happens once in a while and not in to many places?

It does happen in Japan too (although some say they don't experience it). It can be especially annoying when you are trying to rent somewhere to live, only to find that the landlord won't have foreigners in the place.

Do a search - this has come up many times before.

Some of it can be in your face (like some housing situations or signs on places that ban foreigners), but I think most of it is behind the scenes. Until you learn your rights, you may never see some forms of it.

The main human rights activist Debito Arudou has a huge blog and web site if you're interested.
