What other language, at a decent level, do you speak besides English?

I'm surprised Japanese isn't on the list.

Yes, I would think there are quiet a few people here who would vote for Japanese. Also is there a type of poll that allows more than one vote? I wanted to put Spanish and other, but I could only choose one, so I went with Spanish, I actually find it hard to talk about some topics in English, because I learned about them in Spanish. Embarassed What's the English word for tramite?

I chose Spanish, although my sign language is stronger. (Not that I "speak" sign exactly but, well, you get the idea.)

I'm surprised that there are no other votes for French. I must be the only Canadian to have responded thus far. Wink

Unfortunately, what little Korean and Mandarin I picked up in Asia is now pretty well gone. 'Use it or lose it', eh? Razz

Italian

Unfortunately I'm rapidly losing my formerly-good intermediate German.

Melee, tramite in Italian is the equivalent of "via" or "by" in English (as in I sent you the form by/via e-mail).

I suppose it means something different in Spanish?

In years past, Spanish, but I have lost soooooo much of it.

In a few years (?!?!?!?), Japanese??? Depends on how long I stay here.

Are we only allowed to speak one (other) language? Of course we all speak English (not eligible), but I attempted to enter "French" and "other" (Turkish) and, as soon as I pressed "other", "French" disappeared, and vice versa (can I include Latin?).

Japanese and English to my daughter. It's cute when she says uses both languages when asking for something.

Good question but too bad you can only choose one of the options.

My German used to be pretty good, and since I'll be moving there in less than two months, I'm sure I'll pick it up pretty quickly again.

As for the other language, my 6+ years in Poland have helped a lot in learning Polish. While I can communicate in this language, it is one of the most difficult languages to learn well as a native English speaker. BUT, I would have chosen "other" on top of German if I could have because I feel I can speak it at a decent level.

The fun thing for me is speaking to my Polish German teacher colleagues.. They usually speak to me in German and I reply in Polish! But when I was in Germany last month, it was rather embarrasing to reply in Polish to the German spoken to me! Confused (ie, Dziekuje, not Danke, prosze, not bitte, etc..)
