Have any Americans had any experience with the Chinese Embassy or Consulate conducting a background check to verify their affirmative or negative answer to question 3.3 on the Visa Application? The question is: "Do you have a crimminal record in China or any other country?" Later in the form, in question 3.6, the form states: "If you select YES to any question from 3.1 to 3.4, you do not lose eligilibility for visa application. Please give detailed reasons for your answer."
Do any Americans have experience with these matters? Advice?

| The consulate doesnt check on that. If you have a criminal record and you check YES, they will reject you. Better to not check it.. |

if you don't check it, you can always claimed to have missed it. But I am fairly certain America does not share records with CHina. I do not believe China checks
I once asked for the police to give me some sort of paper for a background check. Thye said no., they don't do such things for private citizens |

America doesn't even share criminal records with America!
The Feds don't always cooperate with the state and vice versa.
What the heck would you be worried about, anyway? A traffic ticket?

So you are encouraging individuals with a criminal record to apply for jobs in China? Not just for jobs - for jobs in which they will be surrounded by people, possibly minors who need role models of integrity?

Why not? I don't think that people with a criminal record make any worse of a role model. Hey what, in the US one out of ten have been in jail? Or some astounding number. Most/many of the really bad things are done by people with no criminal record.
Maybe those with a criminal record will appreciate integrity more |

I got thrown in the clink twice in my life. Once for violating the Mann Act (We were both 16 and drove from Mass. to New York in 1956 and got caught by the meanest state cop in existence.) and once for D&D in 1978.
I thought they were great learning experiences. |

That many people with criminal records are found quilty of having committed further crimes does not mean that most (serious) crimes are committed by people with criminal records.
In any case, rates of recidivism of those convicted of e.g. sexual crimes, manslaughter and murder are comparatively low. It appears that most serious crimes are committed by people with no criminal record for such crimes.

People who do the worst things, and are finally caught, had done many many very bad things before being caught. That's for the ones being caught. Some guy in CHicago kills 30 young men and boys. Well, for the first 29 he killed he had no criminal record. Actually for the 3oth he had no criminal record. Smae thing hold true for rape and other vary serious crimes

Today or at least last time I was in the States, it was hang all the sex offenders, watch them like a hawk after they get out, label them, stick posters in front of their house.
Politicans dream. Actually they have the lowest rate of recidivism.
And if you look more in depth, studies show that the more they are allowed to lead a normal life afterwards, the lower the recidivism.Most recidivism of crime comes immediately after release, when they are still adjusting to being released. The parolee's support community at this stage is vital. if society slams the person down at this point, discouragement ad relapse are far more likely

Indeed, we are all 'co-conspirators' and co-criminals to boot. Nobody is perfect. None has committed no sin...
But being honest in admitting a sin or another is one thing while advising posters to keep things under wrap or that the Chinese won't verify your claims (lies) is quite different.
There are quite a few FTs that are totally unsavoury churls that do not deserve to be honoured with a job in this country.
Apparently they find it hard enough to get employment back home...so why should China help them? |
