Hi there,

I was wondering if anybody knew of places to buy some drink.

Preferably, looking for gin (not fake) and 4-litre boxes of wine-red & white.

I used to go down to Kemang Duty Free, but this place is now diplomats only.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks

You can get booze in Sogo supermarket in Mal Kelapa Gading. They don't have it on the shelves though, you have to ask them for it and they will take you into a store room where it's all in a cupboard. I got a reasonably priced bottle of whisky there.

Hi.... There is another duty free in Kemang, on the street where you turn right at McDonald's (right side) and another one near Jalan Jaksa that runs the same way but has all the shops on it...

Cheers!

When was the las time you tried kemang duty free? I was told as of a couple of weeks ago they changed the rule again and regular foreigners can buy alcohol providing you have your passport. I haven't checked it out myself yet though

You're thinking of Jalan Sabang. Lots of under-the-counter "alternatively imported" spirits to be found in the little toko2, too. You'll strike out if you're looking for wine, though - try the Wine Warehouse in Kemang.

Try there is a duty free shop near Starbucks at Pancoram intersection. Close to Izza Pizza at Tebet area. Good luck and save one for me!

Just remembered there's another wine store/bar on kemag Raya called Vin +

Also, Cork and Screw on Jl. Rasuna Said, just north of Setiabudi Building, is another wine bar with takeaways. Although it's mostly the more expensive stuff sold here

I heard the duty free in Jl Sabang is still selling drink. Haven't had the chance to check this, though. Hero at Pondok Indah sells it if not very visibly. Seems like fear of a visit from official or perhaps more likely unofficial law enforcers? An assistant at the back next to the storeroom & soft drinks will show you a pricelist if you ask. A bottle of Myers rum set me back a steep Rp190,000, which is about the going rate in supermarkets. As it cost about half that in a duty free, this could be a very useful thread

Tried at Hero in Cilandak-they had the hidden wine and spirits section.....but pricey!

Kemang Duty Free- 4 lt. box of wine=140,000

Hero- 4lt. box of wine=359,000

As you can see, big difference.

Still searching so keep adding posts.

Vin+ don't sell boxes the last time i checked...

thanks guys & gals

I don't recall the prices as it's been a while, but I did get some reasonable rum and vodka in that place in Kemang, though I do believe the name is Vino Embassy. It's right next to a coffee house, and somewhere before Amigo's, I think.

I once bought a 4-litre cask of red wine at a supermarket in Yogyakarta.

It cost me the equivalent of AU$65.00, which was almost a week's (EF) salary. A few weeks previously, I had bought the same wine in Australia for AU$9.00.

Needless to say, the cask was hidden when guests arrived! Twisted Evil
