First let me say that I am posting this question in both the Indonesia and Vietnam forums. My question is more of a point of view on your own personal experiences. Basically it goes like this......I am a certified TESOL teacher without a BA. Ihave been offered a job by EF, and yes I have read all of the forums about them and understand what I might be getting myself in to if I did accept. Now originally I was thinking about going to Vietnam to teach but without a BA I would have to find a job after I got there which is what worries me a little bit. I know that I can market myself well but still arriving in a foreign country without a job or atleast knowing anyone has me a little aprehensive. So I though about taking the job with EF just because it will give me a little bit of stability. Most people in the Indonesia forum might disagree with this just because I have mention the name EF, but to be honest without a degree or years of experience I am very limited in my choices. Many people in the Vietnam forum say that finding a job after you have landed if simple, so simple that all it requires is you knocking on a couple of doors. I find this a little hard to believe. I am not saying it is impossible but it does sound a little too easy.
So now I ask for your opinions.......should I take the EF job or go to Vietnam and try my luck knocking on doors?

To put it simply, I think it depends on;
a) your cash reserves
b) where in your heart intrigues you the most
If you have enough cash to last a couple of months (ie. a potential dry spell of searching in Vietnam), then I'd suggest going with your answer to (b). If your cash reserves are running a little thin, then go with the job at EF.
If you do go to Vietnam, I'd suggest heading for Ho Chi Minh. Jobs seem a lot more scarce in Hanoi. But the people on the Vietnam branch could offer more insight on that.
Good luck |
