Hey all,
I lived in Thailand for six months. Had a pretty good time. Now I'm in Korea, but I have a month to kill in February.
Can anyone compare Vietnam to Thailand? In terms of price, vibe, landscape, amount of English spoken, girls, drugs, (might as well be honest about the factors that matter to me), etc. Anyone have any suggestions for where I might kill a week or two? I'm actually looking for relaxation over adventure... maybe a cute little bungalow on a beach somewhere, if the prices are as cheap as Thailand.
Thanks! |

It's been awhile since I've been in Vietnam...but Vietnam is a lot more similar to Korea in many ways than Thailand.
For one, I don't recall ever seeing any go-go bar in Vietnam (or Korea) where the girls dance half-naked and the like like in Thailand.
For prices and backpacker tourism, Vietnam is VERY similar to Thailand. Meaning if you want to do the hostel, cheap DVDs, and backpacker-bus from one hostel to the next, Vietnam is very similar to Thailand.
For speaking English, I'd say Vietnamese are much worse than Thais at speaking English. |

Agreed with Tiger, not that many big differences, and if you are there just a month on vacation you should have a grand time. Everything you seek can be found, and there's no need to spend more than what you'd spend in Thailand. Watch out for any hotel or guesthouse that shuts the doors and refuses guests after midnight. |
