I posted my resume here and got an e-mail from jobsforteachers.org stating that several employers had reviewed my resume and were interested.
The problem is that I never posted my resume there. The catch is that they want me to pay $50 USD to access their database.
Does anyone know anything about this site? Is it reputable?
I'm questioning the site because a number of employers that were interested in me are in Spain. It's my understanding that it's difficult to get work there without being an EU citizen. I'm American.
Thanks for any information. |

That is exactly what happened to me, but I had posted my resume on other sites besides ESLCafe. I got perhaps the same email from Jobs4teachers.org, but only when I went to their site and finally filled out their application was I sure that I had never actually contacted them before. I am also American and had the same understanding about getting jobs there in Europe. I was just about to post the very same question that you did here.
The site LOOKS so attractive, but it is suspicious that they ask teachers to pay anything; the schools should be the ones paying the fees. Even if they are legitimate, asking teachers to pay greatly reduces the pool of teachers for employers to choose from because $50 for 30 days is a lot more than the $0 that other sites ask for. I have emailed them twice, and they responded somewhat generically, but it seems clear that their services (if for real) cannot be used at all without a payment from the teacher. I had thought that the payment might be some kind of "premium" (vs. regular, free) membership, but I think there is no such thing on that site. Moreover, the jobs advertised typically do not offer round-trip air tickets, which means that the teacher would have to buy their own ticket going to the country where they would be supposedly hired. It seems too risky to me. Too good to be true, I'm afraid. Disappointing. |

If they claim they can get legal working papers for US citizens in Europe, it's a scam.
But European jobs typically do not offer air fare, so this aspect would be in line with the norm for this region. |

They don't seem to make any claims about getting jobs for Americans in particular, but the site is focused on teaching in Europe, while also having sections for the Caribbean Islands and the UAE. The site doesn't list China, which is strange because in their original email to me, they listed a job in China as one of the employers that was "very interested" in me.
If anyone has actually joined Jobs4teachers.org, I'd be curious to hear about their experiences. |

It's a scam. I can't believe they're still going - what can you do to get something like this shut down? The jobs in the UK have salaries in euros, and there are jobs teaching EFL to six to eight year olds. 2100 euros a month, with free accommodation. Very likely. |

I have an Ecuadorian bank account.
For $50, I will send you an email acknowledging receipt of the dosh, and another one with a list of email addresses of schools interested in you. (The second email would be with a bunch of addresses of schools that have never heard of you, or me, of course. But the "thanks for the money" part would be genuine.)
After that, I'll prove that I can do nothing at least as well as Stephen.
Best,
Justin
PS- Never, repeat NEVER send money to anyone who contacts you for an unsolicited service. FOr heaven's sake... |

Let's clarify that this discussion is about jobs4teachers.org, NOT jobsFORteachers.org, which is a different website. Then there is also jobs4teachers.COM (which redirects to TeacherPlanet.com) and jobsFORteachers.COM, which is also different. The one that sent us the unsolicited email and asks for $50 ($49.95) for 30-day access in order to contact schools "directly" is jobs4teachers.org.

I have recently received email from Jobs4teachers.org, and while they are no longer asking for the $49.95 or so for access to the database for me to contact schools directly, they now say that I need to pay a $100 application fee PLUS a $100 "placement fee"! Don't worry, I'm not buying it, but they tell me:
"We already received interview dates for you from several schools
and your first phone job interview is set for Friday this week.
"Please note that the Application Fee must be paid prior to any
interview. I have just rechecked with our accounting department
and they have confirmed that your payment hasn't been received
as of today (16th of December)."
Users on another Teaching ESL website are also suspicious. One pointed out that there is no physical address listed on Jobs4teachers.org, and when they called the listed phone number in Germany, it did not work. |
