In the following sentence, is it better to use "most" or "the most" ?
I like many sports, but I like basketball (the) most.

Does this site even address the question?

I would say if they both work, use the example that has the fewest words and thus the most efficiency: I like basketball most. But this is from a writing point of view. It probably doesn't matter much when speaking, unless you want to slow down for emphasis or in anger, etc. -- then the can add to the effect.

Just use mostest because YOU, not them, are the expert in English.

In the example sentence I'd use 'the most'. If leaving off the 'the' was the goal I'd use 'best' or 'most of all'.
