where is the best place to teach in mexico? im thinking of relocating from australia, i have 9 years experience and good teaching quals, but would like to be where there's lots of opportunity.

i would guess the best place would be mexico city then, but ... salary vis-a-vis cost of living, how does that weigh-up? is there anywhere that you have found that offers a great lifestyle with also a decent/doable/liveable pay coupled with numerous opportunities? nah, im not asking for much Smile

Depends a lot on what you think a great lifestyle is. On opportunity, you'll find that throughout the country. The beach is where you'll find the lowest salary to cost-of-living mix I'm afriad. If you've got the right qualifications, then you can find a good salary in a smaller city inland if a larger city is not your thing, such as Queretaro, Leon, San Luis Potosi, Puebla, etc.

hmmmm, great lifestyle just means you can enjoyment some comforts and dont spend all your time commuting i guess. ive been to mexico, but just the southern part. im thinking DF is the best place to go, but living there mustnt be very relaxing. is it best to just arrive and then search out a job, or find one first? i gather everyone or most are teaching on tourist visas? how common is it for a school to provide a work visa? id be looking at teaching in an institute to young adults i think.

It's all a matter of taste but I like Southern Mexico. The people seem more gentle than the aggressive, cigarette smoking Chilangos or the wannabe cowboy machos of the North. I don't like big crowded, noisy cities so DF would not be for me. One other nice thing about Chiapas (with the exception of Tapachula) is that, so far, it is relatively free of the narco violence that has plagued DF, Yucatan, Guerro, and the Northern border towns.

One way to do that in DF is to find a place to live near your job (i.e. job first, then apartment) or at least near the metro and in the same general part of the city.

Think positive: it's invigorating. Also, you can arrange things not to be so hectic by the right choice of neighborhood and job.

Generally the former. The majority of opportunities are not publicized internationally.

No. Definitely not everyone and probably not most.

Fairly common, but not universal. More info in these threads:

and probably in others as well, but this is what I can come up with for the time being.
