As a spin-off to once again's thread, what are your holiday plans? Travel? Family & friends? Rest time at home?
I will be visiting a friend in Taiwan for a week and then heading back to the States to visit my folks in Oregon and my friends in California. I can't wait!
And of course I will be taking a select handful of textbooks with me to plan my courses for the next term. (Is it really a "vacation," then?)

I"ll spend my second Christmas in Japan. This year we are having lots of people over to share Christmas with. I'd love to go back home, but airline tickets are just too expensive at this time of year. It will be a lot quieter and simpler this year than if we were at home. I'm looking forward to it. |

Christmas #5 in a row away from home. No special plans, really. It's not really time off for me, and I have work I need to do.
In China the holiday is shortly after that - the Chinese new year. But I'm going to be grounded by my finances, I'm afraid. |

I'll be flying to Paris then to London for Christmas. Our school gives us two weekends and a week off for Christmas (the Turkish teachers have to cover our lessons so I feel quite guilty getting paid for this holiday!!). We found a super cheap flight to Paris from Istanbul on KLM ($179!!!!) and thought we'd have a few days of wine and Parisian cafes and lights on the Champs Elysees before catching a cheapo easyjet flight to London to see friends and family and to have a Marks 'n Sparks catered Christmas dinner with pudding and brandy and all.
It's funny how much little details like fairy lights on trees and christmas carols and decorations mean when you can't find them anywhere! |

It's all work, work, work for me, I'm afraid. After I take my last final of the semester tonight*, I'll rest for a few days then get back to work at the tutoring center and start writing the portfolio that I need to finish my degree. If I'm lucky, I might have a couple of private clients during winter break. On the bright side, at least I can pretty much work on my own schedule. Freedom from the tyranny of the clock is enough to keep me happy.
(*Yes, I know I should be studying instead of hanging around here but, damn it, I just don't care anymore!) |

Holiday? I wish...!
We get Christmas day off, but work till 9pm Christmas Eve and then back at the chalk face at 10.30 on Boxing Day morning. Sleep seems like a good option! (I might make the Midnight Mass though). |

My school is closed for two weeks, and I would love to visit home for the holiday.
The problem is that the ticket will cost me about $1000 US round-trip, and I'll be in transit two days each way.
I'm desperate to visit home - but not that desperate...! |

I'll be in one of my favorite places in Japan, skiing, snowboarding, eating delectible cuisine and lounging in a hotspring at the end of the day. There will also be sake and beer and hopefully some ping pong. Zao, Yamagata here I come. |

This Christmas I have two days off, I'll celebrate it with expat friends here. It's my first time to do this abroad, and I'm looking forward to it.
New Years (Jan. 1) will be a sweet 3 day holiday. Off to Anhui in interior China to catch up with a friend I met in Thailand.
The real fun begins in Spring Festival, which starts mid-Jan. My parents are doing a '3 nation Asian tour' because my brother, my sister, and myself are all working abroad. The folks will start in Vietnam, then cross the border into China on the 24th of Jan. I'll be their tour guide for two weeks, then they're hopping a plane to Japan to see my sister.

As I seem to have let this spin from me..I will add my comment..I have already got a nice stash of wine..of the expensive kind I cannot justify at other times of the year..and was planning to cook, eat, drink etc. Not neccesarily in that order. My wife has just asked if her sister and friend can come..either on boxing day or xmas day..at first I said no to xmas day..as it is our first xmas in our new flat..which we have bought and so will be here for a long time..(my wife is chinese and not christian so there is no real meaning in it for her or her sister and friend, just a holiday and a lot more cooking for me) then I thought that if they come boxing day..then i will have a hangover from xmas day..so now I think xmas day is the better option..any advice..LOL I just love xmas though..it has a special feeling unlike any other time in the year..maybe that is because I can just drink as much as I like and eat as much and not feel guilty because it is xmas...there is also a spiritual side to it..although from my comments you would not guess this..for me it is not a religous thing for the most part..many people in the UK would say the goodwill and peace to all men was just a xmas charade..asking why should that not happen every day..I agree..it should happen every day..but if people can do it for just two days a year at least then I am grateful for that..so although it is not religious for me, I guess it is spiritual, in that it is good for the soul (i think that soul is not neccesarily religious, but part of ones deeper feelings and emotions), and for those two days in another, as they always seem to be, year of tragedies and hurt for many, I think we should strive. And if anybody wants to send me a xmas gift...the ability to spell would be most welcome.. |
