|

I am seeking a high-paying position somewhere in the Gulf (UAE, Oman, KSA), and I wish to be more proactive than just waiting for job advertisements to appear at EFL Web sites. While I am doing my own research, I thought I'd post the following questions:
1. How might I find educational institutions in the Gulf which might be hiring but not advertising? How would you go about this kind of job search?
2. By the way, which Web sites are the best for advertised positions?
Thanks in advance. |

Usually Daves has one of the best job boards.
It also depends on your qualifications, experience etc to determine what you can teach and for who.
do a search for universities/schools in each of the countries you want to find (wikipedia is a good start), and then apply to each of those schools. |

Networking
Conferences
Daves ESLCafe
We are expecting large number of failed stockbrokers and financial consultants to begin expressing interest in EFLing in the Gulf - so get a move on. |

You haven't defined either "high paying" or what your credentials are. This is a common topic that you will find discussed on all the different country branches. Much also depends on what part of the Middle East you want to teach in. I'm assuming the Gulf, since money seems to be the object.
If you have an MA and experience teaching Academic English, you would be eligible for the better jobs in the universities. Most of them now accept applications over their websites.
If your credentials are less, you may want to look into the high pay jobs with the military type organizations in Saudi. Note lots of complaints about the working conditions. They advertise regularly.

BAe (KSA) advertised last week - best paid job 43000 sterling per year plus yearly gratuity, all expenses paid - board and lodging, free transport to and from work. Excellent pension. Long term contract. Teach from around 6.30 to around 1300 back to compound (full facilities) around 1400 - no prep, no committees, two year contract or as long as you want if you keep your evaluations satisfactory. Many people have been there years.
Aramco (KSA) were looking for about 100 teachers at the beginning of the month
Bell (Riyadh)
Try
tes.com
jobs.ac.uk - do international and Uk and they can email new jobs
cfbt (brunei, oman, abu dhabi)
http://www.adec.ac.ae/en/careers (UAE Education Council)
http://uaeinteract.com/education/default.asp (UAE list of educational institutes and contact details - pick one and send spec letter/CV)
British Council (pay a bit less but have pension and worldwide destinations)

research the battlefield
find out what it takes to get a job you want (qulaifications/experience and other intangibles/unmentionables)
know the opponent
break possible jobs into categories (unis, schools kg-12, institutes) with salaries and job descriptions/conditions known
know the players
who hires at each location (name and job title)
target and fire
tailor resume/sales approach to the right person at right location at right time in correct manner - repeat as necessary
consider finding a job to be war against many enemies, play to win and take no prisoners (2nd place gets no job) |
