I understand that it's best to obtain a visitor visa here in New york City in order to enter Taiwan. I also understand that I must tell the authorities that I'm a tourist who won't be looking for work in Taiwan. And l also understand that I must present a ticket which proves that I will be leaving Taiwan rather quickly in order to receive the visitor visa in the first place. Unfortunately, however, I needed to renew my passport and it won't be available until at least Jan. 7 and my flight from New York to Taipei is on January 14. Should I try to get the visitor visa here in New York, even through I won't have my passport until at least Jan. 7 ? Or should I fly out on Jan. 14th, with no visa and then get a landing visa upon arrival in Taiwan and later on do a "visa run" to China to obtain the visitor visa in the event that I am able to find work as an English teacher in Taiwan?
