Hi all,

I have been thinking about going to Vietnam for a while, I have been working in Japan and Korea over the last few years.

Just wondering about the best way to go, I have been in touch with some companies, but I would rather not be tied to a contract.

Is it still common for people to go to Vietnam on the 6 month business/tourist visa, then work a number of different jobs?

In that situation, are immigration strict about trying to enforce rules on foreign teachers, also could you make more money by doing this method than by going with a contract?

Thanks everyone. Smile

I've been thinking of asking a common question, as opposed to actually digging into the related forum and finding what I think, any reasonably intelligent person would consider to be a very basic question that would most likely have a rather long thread line.

Hope that helped...

Already did that, but the last post about this topic was dated.

People had said in the past that immigration were very unconcerned about foreign teachers. (very few regestered teachers, everyone using the 6 month business visa etc).

Then more recently people said that immigration were getting more strict.

The reason why I asked this is to find out the situation on the ground at the moment.

Thanks

The situation is pretty much the same as before.

There are rumors that immigration is getting tougher but they've always been tough on the first renewal - doesn't seem any different. However, immigration is changing and perhaps the workers aren't as sure of the procedures. Example: You can get a one year Tourist Visa (not easy) now.

Getting a contract before you come can be benficial to you IF you're going to work for one of the Major providers here. But short of that, you're better off knocking on doors.

I DEFINITELY wouldn't apply before I got here. You will get hired here. You should come check it out for yourself first. Come on a business visa if you want, but you definitely don't need more than a tourist visa. In Vietnam your visa is not directly connected to a job. So worry not!
