I never hear anything on Okinawa, but I visited there and like the locale. Subtropical, friendly people who weren't uber-urban... The US GIs there can be avoided or not. Anyone have input on the job situation there? I'm in Taiwan now but I don't like how the employer controls your work visa--Japan looks good. |

Okinawa is overrun with military spouses who take away a lot of the private lessons and other related teaching jobs, so I would advise you to stay away from that area if you are serious about teaching and have nothing lined up in advance. I know of one person who has many years of teaching experience there, and he was recently looking for work for 6-8 months. Plus, he is married to an Okinawan woman. |

Have you been anywhere else in Japan? If not, I wouldn't use Okinawa as a good example of Japan. I haven't been but from what I have heard over the last five years I've been here, it is quite different in many ways from the "mainland" as it were. Not saying it is good or bad - just probably not suitable as a preview of Japan proper. |
