I am just wondering about the availability of jobs that aren't ESL related, OR volunteer opportunities that you don't have to pay about 400/wk for! Also...how do you find these jobs? |

To look for jobs in general, whether they are ESL related or not, it's a good idea to check out: http://costarica.en.craigslist.org/. You can see what jobs are available, or at least get an idea of what to expect. Also, take a look at the online English newpapers: Tico times and amcostarica (They have some stuff in Classifieds). I've heard of a lot of Americans working in the call centers. I can't answer your question about the volunteer work, because the few places I know of that don't charge a fee, are looking for ESL instructors. I know it's not always feasible, but the best way to go about looking for jobs there, is to actually be there. Good Luck! I hope you find something! |

You can definitively get a job in a call center or working with things like sportsbooks, or (like me) online support, customer services. They generally won't hire you if all you can provide is English though, you gotta have something to compete. Lots of Ticos have excellent English. |
