I have been teaching in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for about one month now. I started teaching 3 days after finishing my 4 week TESOL in HCMC, and with no prior experience. Many people tell me that they consider Vietnam the easiest country in Asia to find work, and that many "backpackers" find work with no experience or qualifications what so ever.

I am interested in others opinions, in what other countries or cities is it particularly easy to find work?

Definitely Korea and it pays well although you have to put up with the Korean mindset and absence of any endearing culture.

I've heard that you need a degree to teach in Korea, is this true? I've completed 2 years of a 4 year degree, I've got TESOL and a few months teaching experience. Is this enough to get by in Korea?

From what I've heard, the answer to that would be NO, you can't get much, if anything in Korea without a degree. Even if it is in basket weaving, the degree is regarded with mystic wonder by those who have government standards to which they must submit.

Face it, you have to decide what you want: ultimate portability globally and the security that comes with that? Get the degree. Preferably in teaching.

Are you a person who lives for the beauty of the moment, to which you love to adapt at a moment's notice, but never, ever carry a burden for what the future may or may not hold?

Then enjoy your life in Vietnam and teach your students with pride.
