What are the chances of getting a university position at age 61? I have an M.A. (in Latin); have taught humanities and writing part time at a state uni for years; and will soon have a TEFL.
I have been told that, at my age, my chances of finding any kind of teaching job in Mexico are slim and none.
Anyone have personal experience or suggestions?

Well, your age won't help you, but from my experience with unis in Mexico I think you won't have any more difficulties finding a uni job there than in any other country.

It's definitely possible. I've known a few 55+ teachers in unis here in SLP where a lot of folk do come to retire and teach on the side.

Are the jobs these 55+ teachers have gotten full-time or part-time positions? I have the feeling that full-time positions (with benefits) are becoming harder to find in Mexico as a whole.

Part-time positions but with benefits, IMSS & Infonavit. Yes, full-time positions in a government uni are notoriously hard to get, not sure about private ones. I know a few language schools here that don't have an upper age limit. The chain schools won't hire anyone over 35 these days.

Full time uni positons are a )(&%$$ to get no matter where you are talking about. A lot has to do with luck and connections. Part time classification, even if you are really working full or near full-time hours are easier to get (again, just about anywhere)

Any school that has an upper age limit is basically looking for Barbie and Ken and you probably dont want to work for them anyways.

Im 44 and obese (there, I said it) and I get work.
