Where I am currently working in Qatar, they block you if you want to transfer to another institution. Does Bahrain have the same rules?

There are very few foreign teachers working in Bahrain. The few that are here work in the universities or with the BC.

On the contrary, there are quite a few foreign teachers working in Bahrain. According to the Gulf Daily News, the sponsorship program will be done as of August 1, 2009. Not sure what exactly applies then, but at hopefully it will offer the foreign workers--especially the exploited laborers--some hope.

It's no longer the case. When you have completed your contract, you can start your new job without a letter of transfer or release. In the case that you want to resign before your contract is due, you simply need to give a month notice, and you can start your new job. You do not even need to exit and re-enter the country.

Kudos for Bahrain.

Some of the other feudal states in the region, notably Qatar, should do the same. My former bully-boss at Qatar Foundation wouldn't give me a NOC so I had to leave the country. Places in Qatar like Qatar Foundation and Qatar University use the NOC to block people from going to other jobs and accepting other offers. Bully-boss, spymaster management!!

Bahrain seems like a civilized place. A shame I never visited it when I lived in Qatar.

Salares in Bahrain are lower than Saudi and it is a more expensive place to live.

If you really want to be in Bahrian it might be better to get a job in KSA Eastern province and then spend weekends in Bahrain.
