I'm 22, American, TEFL certified, and I hold a degree in Economics. I'm SUPER motivated to get a job SOMEWHERE in the Netherlands, and I'm completely aware of how bleak it looks at this point. I've been applying via email for a couple months now, and have a couple schools who are willing to interview me when I arrive - which is very encouraging! - but they've also stipulated that its virtually up to me to handle all my work visa stuff...
So basically I just dont know WHAT to do first when I arrive. I'm still unclear on what all the rules and regulations are for a US citizen to get a work permit, but i'm pretty sure no matter what I need a company (school) to sponsor me?? Does anyone know if its like Germany, that you jsut need a couple schools to write a formal letter saying they will give you a certain amount of hours a week and make a certain income, and you can get a work permit from there ? I'm sure its not as easy as that sounds in Germany, but I've heard its possible for Americans to work there. So is it similar for the Netherlands?
Nevertheless, where should my attention be best directed when I touch ground in a week and a half in Amsterdam? |
