I am looking to move to China for teaching this summer and I would like to go with my girlfriend the only problem is she is non-native from Spain. I have a B.S. degree and a years experience as a substitute in the States so I figure I will be able to get a job but I would like to work for the same school or at least be able to live with my girlfriend.
She has her Masters in Translation for English and German with an emphasis on Literature and two years experience teaching. 1 year in the states teaching 4th grade and another year in Germany teaching the equivalent of 12th grade. Her English is fluent but she has an accent.
My question is should she be looking for jobs teaching English or should she try to find a job teaching Spanish (if that were the case does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for those jobs). I know there are alot of non-natives teaching English in China, I was just wondering how hard it would be for us to find something at the same school considering our different backgrounds or at least get living arrangements together.
If anyone has any suggestions of schools to start looking at that would be great as well. I am interested in Beijing, Shanghai, or some of the other big cities.

She should be able to find a job teaching english. Not unusual to find other European nationalities here. I know of some jobs teaching French, not any teaching Spanish. Maybe in the biggest cities? |

I met a Spanish teacher here in Shanghai last year. There are jobs out there. I have also worked with teachers from Brazil, Argentina, and other countries teaching "western culture". I also met foreign students who teach or tutor part-time. You said you will come here this summer? Do you mean you only intend to teach summer school? Most of the big jobs at the universities open up in the fall. |
