I was at the KSAALT meeting in Dhahran recently and heard rumours of a little, white haired PMU employee who managed to deceive KSA and PMU into believing that he has several advanced degrees, e.g., a Master's and PhD. My question is -
How common is this in Saudi Arabia? What percentage of instructors here have "pulled off" such a ruse? |

How could anyone possibly know the answer to that one? Anything said will merely be a wild-assed guess... or based on rumor or urban legend.
In my years there I knew of one - not in Saudi (Full Prof - who actually only had an MA - best teacher in the science department) who was caught. There was no punishment... he wasn't even demoted.
I have always assumed that there were more... probably more than a few...

Well, fatimah, Degrees fraud exist everywhere, from USA to Nigeria!.
Staistically speaking, there is no accurate statistics about the problem in the Magic Kingdom, but I can tell you that Fake degree business is booming in the Magic Kingdom.
MOD EDIT
"Candidates are required to pay 50 percent of the fee in advance, and the remaining upon receipt of a fax or copy of the degree"
"Recently, the Saudi higher education authorities said they would investigate the names of those who might have paid for proof they graduated from college or obtained a Ph.D."
"The Saudi Ministry of Higher Educations website lists the affiliated and accredited foreign universities.
The website is http://www.mohe.gov.sa/english.
The Certificates Accreditation Department at the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education is setting up an investigative committee which will include members from the ministries of higher education, interior, culture and information, commerce and industry and labor and will receive assistance from King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology. Anyone who is found possessing or dealing with fake degrees will be dealt with severely. "

Little white haired guy? Santa Claus has a PhD?
PMU is very professional and fastidious about checking credentials.
You just must be mistaken. |
