1. The employeee will discharge the social activities entrusted to him by the Management of the School.
2. The employee shall accurately and honestly undertake any duties or responsibilities that are entrusted to him.
3. He is expected to perform any other duties which the Management deems appropriate.

I get the gist of "you will be asked to do things beyond just teach" but these terms sort of sound like "on your knees slave". Thoughts?

Dear Airhorn,
Only the first one seems a little strange to me - "social activities?" But I guess that would depend on what kind of school you're teaching at. I can see how, for example, the "American School" or any other elem/high school might want to include that.
But the other two are, to the best of my knowledge, pretty standard boiler-plate.
Regards,
John

If you're getting "on your knees, slave" vibes, you're just starting to pick up on the general working atmosphere in KSA. You will never be treated less like a professional than you are here, and that you can take to the bank.

Honestly, this wording of the contract would make me very nervous. You could be expected to do all kinds of things. It's just too general. Ask them to spell out which other "duties" you will have to perform.

^ Yeah exactly. Tomorrow, they might deem it appropriate that you sweep the school.

Well, believe it or not, I actually kept an English version of one of my contracts with the IPA.
It includes the following:

The duties of this job shall comprise the following:
a. Teaching
b. Research
c. Consultations
d. Any other duties that may be assigned to him by the Institute.

The Contractee shall guarantee to perform the duties and and responsibilities vested in him with accuracy and probity and shall exert his best efforts.

Not such a good translation, probably, but that's what it says.

I can't recall much "research", and the only "consultations" I remember would be helping IPA colleagues with college applications and also checking some translations. But I never did have to sweep the floors.
