Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could provide advice for resume writing.

My degree is officially a "BGS" (Bachelor of General Studies) with an English minor, as well as a concurrent certificate in TESL (which is only awarded upon graduation of the degree program). I have 20 upper level credits in TESL but my institution does not offer a TESL major, minor, or concentration.

How would I present this on my resume? Although I have more TESL credits than English credits, I am unable to say that I have a minor or concentration in TESL. Would I list each course as "relevant coursework"? Can I state something like "including 20 credits specifically in TESL"? Or is my TESL certificate sufficient? My TESL certificate is equivalent to a TESL Canada Level II certificate.

Thanks very much for reading. I guess I am just paranoid because I am graduating in a few months and the market isn't very great (I need to stay in Canada). I have a good part-time (non TESL) job to keep me afloat until something more permanent comes along.

You write your degree as usual:

Year graduated, Bachelors of General Studies, school name/location

Then 2 bullets underneath:
Certificate in TESL
20 additional study credits (how many courses?) in TESL

Thank you very much for your help. I have been in university (part-time) since 2002/2003 and the thought of graduating in only a few more months is quite frightening.

Thanks again!

Not too many will know what a BGS is, so write it out on your resume.
