My folks are coming here in March and they're thinking about getting the JR Rail pass. I know you have to buy it before you come but where would you buy it in Canada? Can you get it from any travel agent? I guess getting it is pretty much a given so long as you're going to travel to one other city. They're staying for 2 weeks so I'm sure they won't stay in Tokyo the whole time. I know a Shinkansen ticket to Kyoto is about 12,500 one way so when the rail pass is only 28,000 to start with then it makes sense I guess. |

My Mum got one through the travel agent I think. One way to go about it is to plan a long trip eg Kyushu or Hiroshima and get the pass for the timeframe of the trip not the whole two weeks. |

some big cities have JTB offices (often used for tours etc)
they often have a travel section and you can buy JR tickets there |
