First of all I'd like to introduce myself and say "hello" to all of you. I've been a lurker here for a very long time.

Since I only have an Associates degree, I was considering applying to Hess or Gloria becuase they both list on their websites that they will accept Associates degree holders who also have TEFL certificates.

Due to the fact that I hold a full time job and can't really afford to take time off to attend a 4-week CELTA or TEFL class, I was wondering if an online TEFL will suffice?

Over the years, I've read that Distance degrees in Taiwan are a no-no. I wonder if as long as someone has their A.S. degree would they (the school or immigration) get bent if a degree holder had an online TEFL certificate?

Thank you for your time.

As a lurker then you would have read the many, many threads that say that online education is not recognised in Taiwan.

I wanted to provide an update:

I found a placement company - EU Growth, that provides an internationally accredited TESOL certificate - issued by UK's TAE College.

The program is a combination of training and placement. The graded teaching practium component is conducted at the school in which you are placed.

The end result is that I will be able to secure legal employment in Taiwan with an Associates Degree and obtain a TESOL certificate.

After many years of lurking, I'm glad I'm finally able to contribute something positive to this forum. I look forward to communicating with many of you in the future.

I hope ir works out for you, but I would do a little more research on that company. The time line just doesn't add up.

The problem I see is that You cannot get you ARC without getting your work permit.

You cannot get your work permit without having the proper qualifications.

You won't have the qualifications until after you arrive and start teaching, but...

you can't legally teach without an ARC.

It is all very catch22 to me.

If it works out, great. But before you pay anything, I would get more info about the company that doesn't come from said company.

Walk away. EU Growth don't hold any credibility.

I hope this helps.

LKJ.
