Hi everyone! I am hoping to move to Costa Rica soon to start teaching English and I have a few questions. I am looking to get my TEFL certificate in Costa Rica because I think this will give me a little time to get used to CR before I need to start looking for a job.
I have seen some people talking about COSTARICATEFL....has anyone actually gotten there credential through this company? Are they a good way to go?
Also, I want to sign up for a 6 month contract instead of a 12 month contract..is this common in Costa Rica or will it be much harder to find a job.
And lastly, I have seen a lot of posts that say that you need to go in January to find a job. Well it is January now and I still need time to save money and get my TEFL...is there another time of the year when schools are hiring?
Any information would be a GREAT help. Thanks. |

Hi!
I didn't go to the Costa Rica TEFL program, but many of my friends and coworkers did. I haven't heard anything bad about the program from them. The owner and teachers have a lot of experience teaching English. Completing this program also gives you good connections in the Costa Rica TEFL world as the teachers have been here for a while and have good contacts. Also- if you like the beach, its a great way to spend a while at the beach because its hard to find work on the coast.
As far as jobs go, some schools hire year-round, but in general schools start in Jan/Feb and again in August-ish. These are good times to look for work.
I hope this helps. Good luck! |
