Never heard of it. Have your tried the TES site or International Schools Review? So many new schools popping up every year in the UAE makes it hard to get a handle on the conditions. Do you have an offer? Do you know how long they've been in operation? |

Yeah Glenelg is the new Petroleum Institute high school. Currently being built on land kind of next to the PI, supposed to be open next academic year I think. Check out the PI website. Not sure what qualifications would be required, but it's supposed to be based on an Amercian high school, if that makes any difference. Would imagine salary and benefits would be good but don't have any hard and fast figures for you I'm afraid. |

The PI is putting together a very attractive offer for new staff at the school comparable to the conditions offered to foundation lecturers. If I get more details I will try to let you know. I worked at the PI for five years and the PI makes a lot of effort to ensure that they provide top class facilities and usually do a very thorough recruitment of staff. |

But what you describe is the management induced system at Chouefit... it could very well be that these teachers are fleeing that silliness in order to go to a more sensible system with significantly better pay and benefits.
Most of their ex-teachers that I have encountered loathed the system.

I'd be curious to know what Glenelg's requirements are for their staff. There are some qualified teachers coming out of Choueifat who just managed to get duped into working there (or they didn't do enough research). I sorta suspect that if they're recruiting heavily from Choueifat they're hoping to get people on cheaper contracts. Also, Choueifat absolutely DOES NOT give NOCs. Is the automatic ban still in effect? |

I wouldn't say the PI is heavy on 'drill and kill' though I guess it could be different at Glenelg. Perhaps they just found a handy source of teachers at Chouefit?
Mishmumkin, check out the PI website www.pi.ac.ae as they have info on Glenelg there. I didn't look at the details for teachers (don't think they're asking for English teachers anyway) but they gave a lot of info re requirements for the lab techs they want to employ. (No salary details though of course.) |

What is the latest news about Glenelg School in AD ?
Has the housing situation improved for teaching staff
for next year (will staff be provided with housing)
or will it still be a housing allowance ?
I heard current staff were very upset because despite being given high housing allowances this year, they had a very difficult time finding decent
housing in AD ? |

Latest news is that the school is best avoided. The school is well and truly on its way to becoming Chouefit Mark II. |

Hafniumite-
You stated in another post that:
"As a point of comparison, the Glenelg School of Abu Dhabi which recently opened offers its teachers with a bachelor degree plus 5 years of experience average salaries of around AED22,000 per month. And it is even more for those with a Master or PhD degree, topping out at about AED28,000."

This sounds like an excellent salary to me (not to mention the other usual benefits) or am I missing something ?
Can you explain what you mean by "the school is becoming like Chouefit Mark II" ??? |
