Hi all,

I am leaving for Spain in 3 weeks to pursue my 4 wk intensive Celta cert thru CLIC (International House in Seville). I am hoping to teach in Europe.

I am American, but I have an EU Passport.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with CLIC International House in Seville. How was the class? How was the aid with job placement? I am looking to get into a job rather quickly. The course ends March 13 and I'd like to be working in April/May. Is that a reasonable expectation? What should I expect? I would like to stay in Spain... Where (what cities) am I most likely to get a job in? What types of schools?

What has everyones experience been in getting a job after the completion of the course? How long did it take, etc?

I have enough funds to hold me over for a month or two while I look for work, but obviously I would like to get started with a job asap.

I have also been looking into getting a job during the traditional school year with MEC, The Cultural Embassadors Program (http://www.mepsyd.es/exterior/usa/en/programs/us_assistants/default.shtml). Anyone have an opinion on that?

Also, what have people done for housing while searching for a job? Or for an income during the interm? Once I have the job, where can I expect to live? Avg. compensations?

Thank you so much for all of your help. I am sorry for all the questions, but I need advice!

Look forward to hearing from you! Cool

Ok, I'll play it again too Surprised

First, it would be important to know where you're FROM - if the UK, we can assume that you will be able to get a legal job in Spain. If North America or Australian, you've got major legal challenges which you are not very likely to be able to overcome.

Second, from your emphasis on finding a job quickly after the CELTA I assume that you will be fairly short on funds. A word of caution: don't contemplate any move abroad unless you have a decent nest egg. A little bad luck can go a long way. Getting started in any new country takes some time.
Consider: language schools usually pay monthly, at the END of the month worked. Landlords usually want one month's rent as security, and the first month's rent up front. You may also have to pay an agent fee, which can be equivalent to a month's rent. So you can see that you will be supporting yourself for some time after the course even if you land a job right away.

Third, April won't be the best hiring season by any means. Most contracts run Sept/Oct thru the end of June, and there isn't much work July/August. Another expense you need to count on in your planning.

You found the Spain forum, I see Smile
