Okay okay I know it is a day or two late. I was just trying to get something going on this board. It is dead in here. I can't wait until Tet is over so everyone is back discussing the latest and greatest. Heck, I even miss reading the negatives at this point...ha ha!

Anyway, for those of you in Vietnam right now, could you please share your 2009 Tet experience with us who have not yet had a chance to witness it ourselves. I hear it is really something that needs to be experienced first hand.

I'm in HCMC. I wish I had travelled over Tet. A lot of things are closed. Viet people are busy. The clamoring for lucky money would be mildly amusing if it wasn't for the lingering ill feelings about constantly being overcharged and given the wrong change. Or outright robbed.

My Viet gf warned me that crime goes up before Tet, as the Viet people need money for Tet gambling. Even with some extra precautions, I've been pickpocketed twice and had money stolen from my guesthouse room in the weeks leading up to this long boring holiday.

Most of the teachers I know went to Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore over Tet.

Hungout in Singapore for most of it, but returned to Vietnam for normal celebrations. My family has taken 6 days for the holiday and that has and will continue to consist of lots of gambling (cards), billards, beer, beach more beer and a hell of a lot of food. For Tet its always better to be in the countryside. Saigon is a ghost town during Tet, but still alright as long as you are with the right crowd.
