if the st james gig isnt working out for me, how hard and expensive is it to find a new school, and do the visa/work permit paperwork?
and what are other people's experience with st. james? i've read the posts below but they seem a bit dated.

It depends how bad your experience with St James is. Is it THAT bad that you can't stand working there anymore? Have a chat with other TEFL teachers (that don't work at St James) to see if their experience with their schools are any better or worse.
If you go to a new school, you'll have to start the visa/work permit all over again.
The first year in the CR is the worst. Many TEFLers leave within the first year. I know it's not easy adjusting to a new school/culture/country. |

I agree with Aussie Chick here.
I would also add that it is often a good idea to speak directly with the school. Approach the school and request a meeting so you can voice your concerns. You might be able to find a solution to your issues just by having some open and honest quality chat time with the school management.

How did it go freesolo?
Did you work things out with the school?
Just wanted to also take this opportunity to write again that it is always best to communicate with your school.
Also, that different people will expect different things from their school so not every school is right for everyone.
When I was teaching full-time I preferred to teach for one main larger school and also each for a smaller school. I was satisfied with this. I wouldn't have felt comfortable teaching for a very large school and likewise wouldn't have received the support I needed if I was just teaching for smaller schools.
When you interview for schools you can meet the staff and potential fellow co-workers and get a feel for the place.
It also has a lot to do with location and the atmosphere of the school.
ITTP sends its grads to St.James language centre and to date we haven't received any credible reports of complaints. They are a recommended language centre.
St.James are also one of the largest language schools in Prague so it is inevitable that they will receive a bit of criticism.
A full list of Prague language schools can be found here:
