Return flights to Fukuoka around August are bank-busting. Am I right in thinking that if I have my work visa, I can get a one way ticket to japan with no problems? That way is a much cheaper option.
Thanks! |

Japanese Consulate in Melbourne told me that it is Ok to enter on a one way. But I have never actually done it, so it would be good to hear from people who have. |

You have a work visa. Absolutely it's ok! |

With a work visa, no issues at all. Have come in on a one way or the second half of a return ticket countless times. |

And what about a tourist visa? Those are three months for most nationalities... |

Technically, you need an onward ticket. In some countries airlines may refuse to let you board when check-in staff see you don't have a visa allowing you to enter without an onward ticket.
Japan Immigration probably won't ask to see an onward ticket, but sometimes they do, and they occasionally turn people away and put them on a plane back where they came from. It's up to you whether you want to take that risk. |

nanoripe, usually I have found single flights to be more expensive. However,if you are sure about your choice here, and you can get such a flight, you could go for it.
You don't need a return flight if you are in possession of a valid work visa.
You do if you are a tourist or on a stop-over flight.
Consider this: Some people come here to work for periods of several years ,which would mean they'd need an open ticket for more than 12M , something no airline I know of will offer.
Also "tickets" are a thing of the 20th Century. There is nothing to show as most airlines use electronic ticketing.
Just make sure you have your employers details at immigration.
I have stressed pointlessly about virtually ever weird outcome with immigration. Don't. Immigration is just a necessity, not a hurdle to try to catch you, as you are really coming here for a genuine reason. |

No, but if your visa expires while you're still in Japan you will now be an "overstayer" which can result in jail time and banishment from Japan when caught. |
