I have had no luck finding information about this apparently fairly new non-profit institution in Kurdistan.
Does anybody have any details about the local infrastructure, security, management issues, etc? |

Lessee here...
Regents
Jalal Talabani, Chairman (Kinda hepled us get into this mess-American puppet)
Adil Abdul-Mahdi (Unknown)
Hacem Al-Hassani (Unknown)
Ayad Allawi- (Past president of the new & improved Iraq- Highly disliked American puppet)
Nechirvan Barzani (Unknown)
...and, last, but not least...,
Zalmay Khalilzad- Oh, where do we start? First, relatively unknown State Department drone (read: Wolfowitz protege)...then, made U.S. Ambassador to Afganistan cuz' he looks and sounds Arab (altho Afganis aren't Arab..., then U.S. Ambassador to Iraq...then, for all the good work he dun for Dubya was made U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations...has been successfully thrown out on his ear. He's the most successful of the bunch because he's been elevated the the level of Dubya's lap-dog.
...not the bunch I'd wanna work for!
BTW, I checked out the website for the "university" (http://www.auis.org/) most of the links " seem to be "coming soon"...and that includes the students AND faculty.

Thanks NCTBA.
You seem to know about the top echelon. It does not sound very encouraging.
Yes, it all seems to be pretty new. But there appear to be quite a few international faculty members in place.
But what about the infrastructure in the area? Is it safe to go there? Are there ane members actually working in the area? |

I'd think that the security is alright...considering where it is. But, I always want to know know...who has my back. I, personally don't trust or honor these fellows...nor, would I trust or honor the people that they hired above me. Many of them are opportunist...that's where I draw the line...only my uninformed TCW.

As is usual, I don't suspect that this list of highly connected Iraqi/American political... umm... gentlemen have anything to do with the actual running of the place. What you need to find out is who is doing the management. There have been discussions of universities in the Kurdish areas and I thought this one was in the mix. Try searching with various terms here and you can probably learn something about the city, if not AUI. I saw only one thread: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=60526&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 and there was no one who seemed to know anything in March 08. One problem is that there are a dozen ways to spell Sulaimani... so just use Iraq.
Interestingly according to my Google search just now, every site related to this place comes up with a malware... do not open... warning. So, I didn't.
Security issues are probably OK... not OK enough for me, but for many. I expect that the students are great based on the Kurdish students that I had in the US. Most are desperate for a chance at an education and a better future.

I had the same google problem just a few minutes ago, but it was the same of the unrelated websites I tried to open as well. It's OK now.
Nothing happened when I opened the AUIS website earlier today. |

Yes, I just found on a newsite that Google was temporarily 'broken' and every site was coming up saying 'malware.' Even their own...
Not much of help for you on the site though...

Googel the name: Owen Cargol. That should answer a number of your questions. |

He has already left there and is now somewhere in Riyadh I believe.
It seems that none of these employers are able to use The Google on The Intertubes...

Washington knew exactly what they were getting, they just thought they could get away with him, gratitude is a wonderful thing and so rewarding to have one of your own in hock. |
